Last night I sat for a new life class in Carlisle, run by the Crown Gallery; http://www.crowngallery.net/
It was a taught class, and very competently too I thought, from my position of sitting there listening to it all, and also from looking at the results afterwards, which were very impressive. Although sometimes I wonder about giving away all our artists’ tricks, like negative space and how to draw hands. If people realise they can learn this stuff they’ll stop seeing it as a magical talent! It was also very well run for a class that had only just started; all the essentials were there, easels and biscuits for the break, as well as cushions for the very hard stone floor. Highly recommended all round and Carlisle needs some life drawing classes.
How many will run and for how long, I don’t know as yet. Hopefully it will be a regular feature, but even if not, the Crown Gallery is worth a visit anyway. They have some Clive Barker artwork on right now for any fans of his in Cumbria or the Border lands.
